terrible earthquake in China

I rarely watch the news nowadays and just learned about the terrible catastrophy that happened in China in may. Right now I'm looking at how the situation unfolded and how many people it hit and it's just terrible.

My thoughts are with the victims and their friends and families.

The Children in China

According to the reports I read many schools were amongst the buildings that came down during the earthquake with many children dying during classes. It is a terrible thing for anyone to lose a child, but then I remembered that in China families with more than one child are frowned upon by the state - so many families lost their *only* child!

At this point things seem to be far from over with the thread of bursting damns and floods and of course illnesses spreading amongst the survivors who lost their homes.

Over 50000 dead confirmed, many more are very likely. This is bad.

Surprised

I am really surprised that this is the first you have heard of the earthquake. Even if you don't keep up with the news reports of this were (I thought) unavoidable. It's really a heart breaking event. Not to mention there are parts that were affected where nearly everyone died and authorities haven't even found them yet since they're not sure where to look.

I kind of stopped watching

I kind of stopped watching the news some years ago, when I was dealing with depressions. I found it often either enraged me or got me down how ppl all over the world treat each other. I guess you can say I traded in being up to date with all the bad things that happen for a little peace.

understood...

Yes, lots of people do this. I did for a while, when I too, was dealing with depression. Somewhere I reached a strange point in my life where it changed. I just watch now and think of it as a lesson. Learn how NOT to be I guess... *shrug*
