Nice idea - pay musicians directly and avoid involving the companies ^^
Recently big record companies seem to piss off more and more people. But what, if you like some artist's music and want him to have his rightfull money? Then you'd have to buy a CD and shove some more money down the companie's throat, right?
Well, maybe not. While this sure isn't the final solution for the changing world of music distribution the guys at http://www.dearrockers.org/ had the idea to simply send money directly to their favourite artsts, along with a letter explaining why they choose this way. And they set up their page to publish the letters of other people who join in.
What use is that? Well, for once some of the letters make funny reading, since not everyone is sending his or her five bucks to their *favourite* musicians. And then it sends a little sign to musicians and labels as well:
Many letters read a bit like "ok, I admit I downloaded your music online without paying, but my intent was not to rob you, simply not to get robbed myself - I rather send you money directly".
