I fought with myself for a long time: Should I actually use such an obvious Jarre-sample or not? Well, I did it and the outcome was this nice grooving track that features some soft house and acid elements. The general mood of the track is a bit on the funny side, I believe it’s obvious the tune grew when I was simply toying around. Enjoy!

Here we have a dark trance masterpiece. Based on a really simply structure the tune, I think, builds a vast soundscapewith deep canyons in it. All in all the hectic elements leave me shaking my legs everytime I listen to it.

I thought this tune was completely lost until I, while searching for a tape to be deleted, found it on a long forgotten master... :-) Phew!

Mondyn + was done after my first experiments with the Basstation. I sat down and told myself: “And now we’re going to do a real techno tune!”. So I utilized 909 percussions, an old mellotron-choir sample and, of course, those 303-like Basstation-sounds. Anyway - I couldn’t help but include some more organic snare tunes. ;)  read more »

The Void allows you to loose yourself in the endless voids of space... Built on a carpet of slightly distorted strings (for your information - the sound comes from Einstrürzende Neubauten’s “Ende Neu” CDrom version) there is a slow analogue bass loop that leads us through this meditative track. The tune works by using long and exactly set echoes on allmost all of it’s main sounds.  read more »

Other than The Void, Ambient 01 actually features a grooving slow beat. I don’t know about you, but to me this tune says “onward... onward...” ;) In fact the original version of the tune was about twice as long as this “short edit”, but since this even for me seemed a *bit* long I did this second version.

When I recorded this I thought that it sounds very good to me but that noone’ll like it. Oh, how wrong I was - I got *very* positive feedback on Der Klang which is, drummroll please, nothing more than *one* chord on the wavestation, played on a modulating sound. That creates a pulsating feeling which won’t let you go...

In other words: Pure, unrefined ambient! :)

The Abyss is sounds. Analogue fx, twisted knobs and defenitely no structure at all. Deeper, deeper and deeper into the darkness...

When I listen to it now it somehow sounds to me like an electronic version of the music in the final travelling sequence of 2001 - a space odyssey. But in this case it’s purely coincidential.

As written above Deep Space was recorded in '92. The equippment at that point still was really minimalistic (I just had started to use keyboards and a sequencer, and I bought my first FX-processor). This is one of the “Sonix-Only”-tunes: Using mainly the Roland MT32 through the software’s minimal midi capacity I here added some floating sounds played directly by the software’s virtual synthesizer (it’s that spacy main synth).  read more »

If you’d ask me why I didn’t allready do a fresh version of this small melody (I really like it): I don’t know, but I think it’ll have to happen sooner or later... just beautifull, yet minimalistic. Definitely a fine round-up for this CD. :)

Hmmm... this one’s a bit hard to define, I’d say, that it’s a bit drum’n’bass-ish, but judge for yourself. It is the result of some early tries with sampled drumloops... Stay tuned for more of this stuff.

That’s a really good one too... Following the style of LFO’s Tied Up, Hubble creates it’s own dynamic by pointing out the discrepancies of the troubles of modern life... Naaaw, it’s simply cool, but it really sounds a bit like Tied Up ;-)...

You could call Phase IV the bonus track of Eclypse, since it’s actually a remastered track from... 4 or five years ago... Hmmm... It’s building abound some silly sounds and a monotonous bassline, but ... I don’t know, I just like it... :)

Being another random-sound-creation result, this one has it’s own quality - perhaps, because it really sounds like some kind of communications loss... ;)

For the earth part of the Elements cycle I was looking for a heavy, strong base for the whole tune, for obvious reasons. Think heavy earthworks, flowing magma.  read more »

A new take on the formerly rather soothing Water theme from the elements.

Vengol 1, recorded in 1991 on a friend’s Yamaha DX-7 synthesizer, was my very first tune done with midi. Before that I only had programmed my tunes on different tracker programs either on the Amiga or the C64. This one wasn’t recorded with a sequencer though, I planted notes with the mouse in Sonix, using it’s extremely limited midi functions.

Still using Sonix, this tune marks the next step: My very first own synthesizer, in this case the Roland MT32. Multitimbral, multichannels, an own delay-processor... I still love to use this little black box, it has a very warm sound.  read more »

Maral is the last real evolutionary step I did until recording Evolutions itself: Moving from computer-based interfaces to a real sequencer and keyboard. It’s from the same tape as the uncut recording of Evolution, done in 1993. At this point I was allready using the Wavestation and the DR660 drumcomputer.

So this is the main feature: Evolution. A track ~30min long and full of changes in style and melody.  read more »

This is an interesting little diddy if you ask me. Hard to say why, but it has something that makes you listen through it to the end once you're in.

The percussion is reworked through a vocoder, giving the beats an outlandish sound. I think today that I should have mixed a little different, something's not *quite* right, of course that can be my personal paranoia. ;)  read more »

Set 08 was written a year *after* Set 09, this time for the tape “Evolution”. Here’s a classic example for slowly building ambient that’s based on sounds and not on melody... To round up the whole album I’ve added Sol - a late 1998 reprise on 92’s Solaris. Originally this one was done as a title tune for a PC game, but it got never used. Maybe happened, because I’ve chosen some really old fashioned sounds... :).

Anyway - here it is! :-)

Done for the “Evolution”-tape as well, Sequenzen more or less is a medley of older tunes from “Elementare Klänge”. It’s based on a sound-carpet from “Wasser”, percussions from “Erde”, a lead synth from “Feuer”, and some titbits of melody from “Deep Space” (unpublished until today) and the “Set”’s.  read more »
